Eco Architecture Wairarapa

Carterton House

This new house has been built by its owners (a designer and a builder) in a beautiful rural edge setting in the Wairarapa. They were inspired by traditional forms with clean detailing. The gabled bedroom and living wings create an L shape on the site, separated by a lower entry hallway and verandah. These forms serve to create shelter and also maximize the views towards the mountains and landscape from the two wings. Attention was paid to the solar gain and passive cooling through the house to enable it to respond well to its particular climate. Careful use of materials and a simple structure enables quick and cost effective construction. The soft nautral interiors contrast with the black shell exterior providing a calm feel to the spaces.
